Ohio Medicare and Other Senior Health Plans (OH)

Residents of Ohio should join the bandwagon and enroll in a Medical Advantage plan to make up for those coverage "gaps" in Medicare, but they must be circumspect. Medicare beneficiaries (including the optional Medicare Plan B – medical insurance) who are currently covered under employer or union policies could be giving up their benefits if they enroll in an Medicare Advantage plan. This means that previously existing deductibles, co-payments and other cost-sharing mechanisms under their policies would be superseded by their Medicare Advantage plan. Before enrolling in an Medicare Advantage plan, it is advisable to coordinate with the present union leader or employer to clarify these issues.

This is another reason that the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under federal law has regulated marketing practices of Medicare Advantage plan providers; it is easy to be railroaded into a policy that will not provide the right benefits if the salesperson is aggressive enough. Senior citizens qualify for Medicare within the six months around the age of 65, and the fear of rising medical costs and the specter of ill-health make this population particularly susceptible to high-pressure selling tactics.
