Senior Health Insurance in New Hampshire (NH)

Medicare Advantage plans differ in the scope and breadth of coverage, but the minimum requirement is that it covers at least all of Part A and Part B covered by Medicare. Depending on specific health needs, an individual has to give careful consideration in choosing the health benefits of an Medicare Advantage Plan which will typically be in force for a full calendar year. Otherwise an enrollee may have to pay for larger out-of-pocket medical costs than necessary and not get the coverage needed.

In December 2003, Congress passed of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Modernization and Improvement Act (MMA) to reduce the coverage gap of the original Medicare Part A and B. Part A of Medicare covers hospitalization and is automatically provided to most seniors after their 65th birthday. Part B is optional medical insurance, and availing involves a monthly payment that is deducted from Social Security benefits. In order to be eligible to enroll in an Medicare Advantage plan, both Part A and B should be in force.

Part C is insurance coverage for prescription drugs, and was added as an option to Medicare in January 1, 2006 under the MMA. Medicare Advantage plans fall under the provisions of Plan C, although not all Medicare Advantage plans actually cover prescription drugs. Stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans are also available, but bundled Medicare Advantage prescription drug plans* often cost lower in the long run.
