New York Medicare and Senior Health (NY)
Medicare Advantage plans are considered supplementary health insurance that people who already have Medicare Part A and B can avail of. The initial enrollment period (IEP) for Medicare is between 3 months before and after reaching the age of 65; late enrollment will result in penalties. In some cases, disability cases are allowed to enroll before this period, specifically from the 22nd to the 28th month of disability. Enrollment for first-time Medicare Advantage plan enrollees is from January 1 to March 31 of each year. Switching Medicare Advantage plans can only be done from November 15 to December 31 and will remain in effect for the whole of the following year. Switching automatically cancels enrollment in the old Medicare Advantage plan.

- Plan switching can be effected between November 15 and December every year
- Enrollee moves permanently outside the area of coverage of the exiting Medicare Advantage plan provider
- Enrollee is deemed qualified for extra help for prescription drug payment by Medicare
- The current Medicare Advantage plan no longer provides prescription drug coverage
