Types of Louisiana Medicare and Senior Health Plans (LA)

The Medicare plans in Louisiana are available for individuals over 65 years of age, permanently disabled or have a chronic illness. Fifteen percent of the state's population is covered under a Medicare plan (roughly 644,000). There are four different Medicare plans available, Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D*. The original Medicare plan is the Part A option, which offers you limited benefits for hospital visits, nursing home stays and in-home care. There is no premium for this option, but if you extend the maximum amount of time for your hospital stays, there will be out-of-pocket costs.

The Part B Medicare plan is optional and can be added onto your Plan A policy. If you decide to do so, you will receive extra benefits that cover x-rays and chemotherapy. Outpatient care coverage is available as well, but there are premiums and deductibles with the plan. Then for the Part C option, you are able to choose a private health plan that has the same benefits as the Part A and Part B plans. Then for the Part D option, you are given extra benefits for your prescriptions drugs. You will receive discounts for the prescription drugs you need.
