Prescription Drug Prices Compared

The above graph depicts the average drug prices at the turn of the millennium for both Canada and the U.S. In some cases, the same drugs are made at the same factories, but carry different wholesale prices depending on the country in which they're sold.

A 60 Minutes segment from 2005, "Insider's Rx for Drug Costs," revealed that certain drugs costs ten times more in the U.S. than they do in parts of Western Europe, despite the fact that the drugs are made in the same factory.

On average, drugs in Europe cost half as much as they do in the U.S.
